Marbella Town Hall and Marbella Options work together reassuring the public and the travel industry of the excellent security in the resort

Director of Tourism for Europe’s top resort Marbella, María José Lanzat agreed this morning in a conference call with Carlos Fernandez, Director of Safety and Nicholas Rhodes, Director of Marbella Options, leading accommodation provider for foreign tourists in the city to announce an new initiative to reassure the public and travel industry of the excellent security in the resort.

The Municipality recently announced in conjunction with Marbella Options an educational program called “Marbella Foundations” involving a series of seminars given in schools sharing the experiences that have gone into creating a top class resort and city. Citizen safety is a key element in this program but due to the recent incidents in the national capital Madrid and an isolated local event, it was felt necessary to bring forward that particular part of the program and expand it to the general public and travel trade as well.

María José Lanzat, the Director of Tourism for the Town Hall of Marbella, stated that “Marbella is one of the safest cities in Europe. We have worked hard for many years to provide a perfectly safe environment for our residents and tourists alike. Our city is a true melting pot of nationalities, religions and races and we are proud of the fact that one can walk safely down the street without any insecurity or fear.”

Carlos Fernandez, the Director of Safety for the city, goes on to confirm that “Having such a multitude of nationalities and cultures, as well as experiencing a rapid growth of popularity and the opening up of national borders, is not always the easiest thing to deal with but we work closely with national and international bodies to ensure that there are the absolute minimum of incidents.”

Nicholas Rhodes, Director of Marbella Options, comments “We are all very proud of our city and of our excellent safety record. I have lived here for more than two decades and not at any moment have I ever felt unsafe. We have a unique environment here and it is unfortunate that this is not always reflected positively in the international press. We hope that our efforts with the Town Hall will put this straight.”
