Eventhough the Costa del Sol and Marbella in particular has been somewhat criticized lately in the British press, the British public still treats Spain as its number one holiday destination and the airlines have reinforced this by providing extra capacity during the summer months.

Nicholas Rhodes, Director of Marbella Options, also states that despite the weakness of the US Dollar, the company is “seeing a large number of American tourists, mostly in the high end bracket coming to play golf and enjoy the beach”. He also goes on to comment that “there are further signs of recovery in the German market” and reservations from this country are beginning to pick up. However, the Middle East market which is usually very strong in Marbella looks to be weak this years with the Saudi monarch possibly not visiting his Marbella palace electing to visit one of his other palaces in the mountains of Lebanon.

According to Mr. Rhodes, one very interesting factor that is coming into play this year is the late bookings market. “We are seeing more and more that our guests are booking later and later with an average of 2-3 weeks before departure”. Anticipating this, the company has successfully negotiated with the hotels and apartment owners for blocks of rooms in the month of August.
